This research presents an advanced Solar Array Simulator (SAS) designed to accurately emulate the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of real photovoltaic (PV) arrays under various conditions, including shading and temperature changes. To ensure seamless operation with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) converters, the SAS features a fast transient response enabled by an isolated interleaved converter that produces a multilevel voltage, reducing filter size and improving performance.
A novel control algorithm dynamically switches between voltage and current modes to precisely replicate all regions of the PV I-V curve. Experimental results demonstrate that the SAS can emulate PV arrays up to 600 V and 10 A, maintaining accuracy even under partial shading and rapid changes.
